Purpose
The purpose of The Student Advisory Board is to give upper-class students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills by not only participating in Leadership Institute programs but by helping to plan and facilitate activities as well as to serve as mentors for new students involved in the programs.
Benefits
By serving on the Leadership Institute Advisory Board, students will have the opportunity to practice and develop important leadership skills that will contribute to career and personal success. Some of the skill areas include: planning and organization, communication, teamwork, decision making, problem solving, public speaking, mentoring and emotional intelligence. It is also a great way to meet other people, have fun, become involved at RIT and make a difference! Also a terrific resume builder!
Below is a summary of responsibilities for Advisory Board Members
- Attend Advisory Board Meetings, usually held every week as needed
- Share ideas on how to improve programs or add new activities
- Attend and assist with one to two certificate sessions per quarter
- Assist in the planning and Co-facilitate activities at Leadership Institute interactive events such as: the overnight adventures, the leadership challenge and Spring Conference
- Serve as a mentor for new students at overnight adventures as schedule permits
- Promote Leadership Institute events to RIT students
- Assist in the planning of the Leadership Institute Closing Celebration
- Assist in the planning and speak at Kick off Sessions
- Do one RLI & CSC office hour a week; file, plan events, meet with students, distribute PR, prepare folders, when needed
- Participate in one of the RLI/CSC teams: Publicity, Service, Events

- Kick Off Sessions, one per quarter
- Fall Overnight Adventure with Ropes Course
- Certificate Program
- Public Speaking Series
- Career Series with etiquette dinner
- Paychex Leadership conference
- Spring Leadership & Mentoring Conference
- Spring Overnight Retreat
- City School Leadership program
- Various service projects
