Performing Artist Series

Opening the 15th Season (2009-2010) at RIT!

Beginning with two concerts in 1995-96, we have now expanded to an average of five concerts a year, now called The Performing Artists Concert Series. David Perlman, an Electrical Engineering professor (now emeritus) runs the concert series along with the Center for Campus Life and has been able to draw top performers from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Eastman School of Music, and a combination of other local and sometimes imported talent. It's purpose has been, from the beginning, to bring highly professional classical and jazz performers to the campus and to make playing opportunities available to talented artists who are somewhat unknown. Since an important goal is to make our music affordable, we've been holding ticket prices down.

Ticket Information:Tickets may be purchased at the Bytes on the Run[Call- 475-5210] ( Former Book store in Student Alumni Union ) or at the door on performance night, if available. For VISA/MC , call the field house box office at (585) 475-4121.

Students: $5.00
Faculty/ Staff/ Alumni : $15.00
Public: $20.00

Jazz Impersonation of the Beatles

Pianist/arranger Rod Blumenau has created a jazz tribute to The Beatles that will premiere in the third concert of RIT's Performing Artists Concert Series on December 11th. He will be ably supported by Jeff Campbell (bass), Gabe Condon (guitar), and Brad Paxton (drums). The group will demonstrate how amazingly well 17 of the compositions of four musical illiterates (none of the Beatles could read music) sound in the jazz genre, four decades after the Beatles broke up. Selections include some of Lennon/McCartney’s early material (“She’s a Woman”, “Things We Said Today”, “When I’m 64”), later works (“Blackbird”, “Eleanor Rigby”), and the song recorded by the most artists ever (according to the Guinness Book of World Records), “Yesterday”. Rod will also share interesting anecdotes about the process the Beatles used to create their timeless music.
